Volunteers Wanted For Graffiti Clean Up In Hurley This Saturday

November 7, 2019
Isaac Estes-Jones

The City of Hurley is asking for volunteers to paint over some graffiti under the A Highway bridge. They hope to start at 9 a.m. this Saturday, November 9.

Volunteers will help City Clerk Chris Daugherty paint over the unsightly ‘additions’ to the bridge. Some wading may be necessary to complete the painting. If you have waders or tall boots, consider bringing those along.

“[We] hope to get enough helpers that it won’t take long to complete,” said Daugherty.

The worst of the graffiti is in plain view. “The worst area is a direct line of sight to the fire department’s picnic area there at the creek,” said Daugherty. Some is explicit.

The city has purchased five gallons of paint and some roller covers. Volunteers are asked to bring roller frames, trays and/or brushes. The paint is oil based, so disposable brushes might be best.

If you are interested in helping out, contact Hurley City Hall at (417) 369-3420. The project may be delayed if there is a substantial amount of rain later this week.
