Virtual Job Fair Set For August 5

July 30, 2020
Cindy Hembree

This past spring many of our Stone County residents were laid off due to COVID-19. With continued increases in cases, the possibility of more layoffs is a big concern. Since the CARES Act unemployment benefits cease on Friday, July 31, this leaves many residents scrambling for a new occupation, or, at the very least, a new place of business.

The Missouri Department of Higher Education and Workforce Development will host the virtual job fair from 2 to 5 p.m. Wednesday, August 5.

More than 200 employers plan to participate in the event, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday.

To offer the virtual job fair, Missouri partnered with the state of Colorado to use software for the events.

The platform will include open job listings by industry.

According to a news release, employers will have the option to host live chats, give presentations about their company and job opportunities, as well as speak with job candidates.

“Connecting job candidates to hiring companies is a key component to the state’s Return Strong campaign and our department’s overall mission,” said Mardy Leathers, director of workforce development, in the release.

“There are a historic number of people seeking employment right now, so we hope to make this virtual experience just as impactful as any face-to-face job fair.”

To participate, job-seekers can register at https://jobs.mo.gov/seeker-virtual-job-fair-registration to receive a reminder email and link to the virtual job fairs.

The department has connected with more than 2,000 job candidates across the state for past virtual job fairs.

Employers interested in participating in the Aug. 5 job fair have until July 27 to register at https://jobs.mo.gov/virtual-job-fair-employer-registration.
