Two Medical Marijuana Dispensaries Approved In County

January 30, 2020
Isaac Estes-Jones

Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services (DHSS) announced the winners of the 192 medical marijuana dispensary licenses on Thursday, January 23. Of the 12 dispensaries coming to the seventh congressional district, two will be located in Stone County, both in Branson West.

The state awarded licenses to COMO Health, LLC and SW Retail  Holdings.

According to DHSS data, COMO Health applied for a total of 12 licenses, including 10 dispensaries. Only five of those dispensary applications were approved.

SW Retail Holdings, which is headed up by a member of the Bigler Law Firm in Springfield, applied for five dispensaries, with only the Branson West location gaining approval.

These dispensaries, when open, will be located relatively close together. COMO Health’s Branson West location was approved for 18031 Business 13, while SW Retail Holdings’ location is listed as 18490 Business 13.

A firm timeline for opening of medical marijuana sales in Missouri has not been established. DHSS will announce the winner of the seed-to-sale tracking program on Friday, January 31. Once seed to sale is up and running, on-site inspections of cultivation facilities will need to be completed prior to cultivators planting their first crop. Industry estimates place dispensaries opening in late summer 2020.

Missouri citizens passed a medical marijuana amendment to the state constitution in November 2018. More than 30,000 medical marijuana patient licenses have been approved already. The state also provides for patients to grow their own medical marijuana with additional requirements for number of plants and security.
