Two men perished in a fatal house fire, Saturday evening near Crane. Capt. Bob McCullough with Station 23 of the North Stone Northwest Barry County Fire Protection District (NSNEBFPD) said the call came in at 6:45 p.m., Saturday, December 19. Calls responded to 961 round house road just outside of Crane. Public records show the home belonging to Carl and Susan Lane. McCullough says two people were unable to escape the fire and died.
According to Capt. McCullough, NSNEBFPD was assisted with mutual aid from Hurley, City of Crane, Clever, Billings and Aurora fire protection districts.
A second house fire off Camp Yocum Rd. in Galena has resulted in the death of a 37 year old old female. Her name has not yet been released.
Sheriff Rader says neither fire seems suspicious in nature at this time. Both fires are being investigated by the Missouri State Fire Marshall.
Capt. McCullough wishes to stress the importance of fire safety. Every home should have working smoke detectors in ALL bedrooms. Check your smoke detector batteries regularly. Close bedroom doors while sleeping. Families should form and practise escape plans in the event of a fire.
