Table Rock Lake Shoreline Clean Up Is April 4
March 12, 2020
It’s time to gather your friends, family, or group members and get ready for the 20th annual Table Rock Lake Shoreline Cleanup on Saturday, April 4th.
Since 2001 Ozarks Water Watch and thousands of dedicated volunteers have removed over 283 tons of trash (566 pickup trucks full) from the shorelines of Table Rock Lake and almost 4,600 tires have been recycled. These impressive results are only possible with a lot of community support.
The first weekend in April around 1,000 volunteers will gather all around the almost 800 miles of shoreline to do their part once again to help keep Table Rock Lake clean and beautiful. Some of the volunteers have been involved for all 20 years of this effort, according to Ronna Haxby, projects director for Ozarks Water Watch. Haxby says she starts getting calls from volunteers as early as January to make sure we’re doing it again. “People are passionate about this event” Haxby said. “We’ve had over 100 teams out cleaning up the shoreline some years. A team could be an individual, a family or a small group of 5 or 6 or a large group of 20 to 30 people” According to Haxby there are scout groups, home owners associations, organizations, church friends and business groups all gathering together on Saturday the 4th or Sunday the 5th of April to take advantage of the dozen large roll-off dumpsters scattered all around the lake, provided by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
Ozarks Water Watch provides trash bags, gloves, tarps and snacks for the volunteers. Team Captains keep track of where the volunteers cleaned and how much trash was removed. They provide OWW with a list of all the volunteers on their team and everyone gets a beautiful event t-shirt for helping. Also, each family gets a camping voucher for one free night at any Corps campground.
“This kind of event couldn’t happen without sponsors.” says Haxby. “The Table Rock Lake Marina Association has been our main event sponsor for most of the 20 years we have been organizing these cleanups. The marina owners are as passionate about keeping our lake clean as the volunteers are.” Other sponsors include U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Missouri Stream Team, Ayres Sign Co. and many others.
