Approximately two hundred members gathered at Chateau on the Lake on December 3, for the Table Rock Lake Chamber of Commerce 2020 Awards Luncheon and Silent Auction. Before the festivities began, toys were collected to help with the Stone County Christmas Assistance toy drive. A silent auction was also held with contributions from Walmart, State Farm Insurance, Table Rock Community Bank and Lake30, among others. Price values for the items ranged from $125 to $1,000. All bids opened at twenty-five dollars.
During the business portion, Sheila Thomas, Chamber President/CEO, recounted the year with considerable reflection. She told how the year began with great promise before the pandemic made its way into Stone County. She reported that at the beginning of 2020 they had been given the project of building up the tourism industry. “Initially, we had the concept that we wanted to do our best,” Thomas said. She continued by saying COVID-19 made the idea much more challenging, but they stuck with the same narrative and succeeded in meeting their goal.
Three Stone County educators were chosen and recognized as Teachers of the Year in their district. Judy Walters, of Blue Eye Schools, for using music and a cheerful demeanor to reach her students. Melanie Hebblethwaite, of Galena Schools, for encouraging her students to reach their goals. And Kim Hammer, of Reed Spring Schools, for lifting confidence in her students and being an overall teammate and leader. The educators were presented with a plaque, dinner, and a show. The awards to the teachers were sponsored by the Dolly Parton Imagination Library.
The luncheon closed with various updates to the chamber. Announcements were made of the new board members coming in and those who were departing. New TRLCC members were recognized. Lastly, Grant Beasley was named the TRLCC Ambassador of the year.
