Suspects Caught After Sheriff Deploys High-Tech Device

October 31, 2019
Isaac Estes-Jones

Three people are in the Stone County Jail without bail following a short pursuit over the weekend in the southern portion of the county. According to a press release from the Stone County Sheriff’s Office, deputies chased a vehicle before the suspects fled into the woods on foot. The Sheriff’s Office then deployed their drone to help locate the suspects, apprehending three of the four alleged burglars.

The press release indicates deputies were dispatched to an address off of UU Highway just before midnight on Friday, October 25.

As the deputies approached the site of the alleged burglary, a vehicle left the scene and refused to stop for the deputies.

A short pursuit ensued, during which the suspect’s vehicle headed back out UU Highway to Highway 86, toward State Route JJ. The Sheriff’s Office deployed stop sticks near that intersection. The suspect’s vehicle turned up JJ Highway and crashed into the woods a short time later.

According to the press release, a 48 year old woman was arrested at the scene of the truck crash, while three males fled on foot into the woods.

During a search, “A large amount of stolen property was located inside the vehicle,” according to the press release.

The 48 year old female was later identified as Tamy Fuchs, of Lampe. She is charged with burglary in the second degree, stealing of $750 or more, resisting arrest for a felony and possession of a controlled substance.

To assist in the search for the other suspects, the Stone County Sheriff’s Office put its drone into the air over the large area of woods where the suspects were hiding. The drone is equipped with a bevy of sensors to help law enforcement locate people when visibility is low or the terrain is rough.

After launching the drone, two of the three suspects were located fairly quickly. The first suspect was taken into custody while the drone searched for the other suspects. A short time later, a second suspect was located in the woods and arrested.

Despite searching, the Sheriff’s Office reports they were unable to locate the third male suspect that ran into the woods.

The two male alleged burglars are Brett Olsen, 32, of Lampe, and Marc Mcghee, 48, of Lampe.

Online court records indicate Mcghee is charged with burglary in the second degree, stealing of $750 or more, resisting arrest for a felony and the class A felony of assault or attempted assault on a special victim.

Olsen is charged with burglary in the second degree, stealing $750 or more and resisting arrest.

Tamy Fuchs, Marc Mcghee and Brett Olsen are being held in the Stone County Jail without bond until they appear in court.

The Stone County Sheriff’s office has used the drone several times to help search for suspects and missing persons over the last year or so.

The specialized piece of equipment has a high definition video camera, as well as a thermal camera that can help locate people in situations where it would be difficult to see them.

In September, the Sheriff’s office used the drone to help search for an armed suspect along the Stone and Christian county lines.
