Violent Storms And Tornados Cause Damage Across Region

Man Dead In Aurora Was From Crane
December 6, 2018

Isaac Estes-Jones

Police in Aurora have identified the man who lost his life in the tornado that hit Aurora on Friday night. They say Jeremy Lewis, of Crane, was staying in a room on the second floor of the Aurora Inn Motel. His body was reportedly found outside of the motel after the storm.

The National Weather Service has recently confirmed that an EF-1 tornado hit Aurora during the storms.

Although no tornados have been confirmed in Stone County, there has been extensive damage through the county. In Kimberling City, Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church had extensive damage, including damages to the steeple and walls of the building. For the time being, all church services will be conducted in the multi-purpose room of the church until repairs are completed.

Further south, trees reportedly fell onto homes and fences in Blue Eye.

In northern Stone County, the city of Hurley was without power until approximately 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, December 1, according to Hurley Mayor Steve Seaton.

Several landowners in the Crane and Galena area have also reported damages to property.

Several trees fell during strong winds, landing on houses, garages and outbuildings.

Some readers have also reported that their sheds were blown out of place in the winds.
