Work is underway on Stone Ridge Villas senior living facility in Kimberling City.
It has been about a month since construction crews broke ground on the $5 million project. The development is located near Harter House grocery store, north of the Hwy 13 bridge over Table Rock Lake. The 13-building complex will feature 36 duplex and triplex units along with a clubhouse.
City leaders say senior housing is very important to the Kimberling City community because seniors make up a high percentage of the city’s population.
“Right now we have one senior housing development already in place in Kimberling City. I know that the waiting list to be placed in that development is very long. Being able to offer a second option is important to our citizens. It might make the difference for some senior citizens having independence with their living situations, or having to be placed in a live-in facility in a different area,” Mayor Bob Fritz said.
Mayor Fritz said being able to offer affordable housing for seniors who need it is something that not all communities can accommodate. Stone Ridge Villas is a Missouri Housing Development Commission (MHDC) project that will bring affordable housing to seniors 55 and older.
“Kimberling City is a beautiful place to live, and we are very family friendly. Our city is dedicated to preserving a high quality, relaxed, safe environment. People retire here for those reasons. It is wonderful that this project has been approved and is in the beginning phases of construction,: Mayor Fritz said.
In the fall of last year, Table Rock Healthcare Retirement Village located just outside Kimberling City closed. However, Mayor Fritz said that closure did not have a big impact on seniors seeking to live within the city.
“The facility housed more individuals that needed care and could not live totally independently,” Mayor Fritz said. “Although there were many people who had to find other accommodations, the new senior housing development does not offer any type of assisted living. We would love to see the Table Rock Health Care facility taken over by another provider and re-opened because there were many people who depended on the care for their families.”
Mayor Fritz said it is encouraging to see not only this project begin, but also new residential homes being built in Kimberling City.
“It shows that people still believe Kimberling City is a great place to live. I would love to see more affordable housing put in place not only for our seniors, but for young families as well. I would also like to see more new businesses and more developments come into town. That is what we are working towards, while still maintaining our family friendly, safe environment,” Mayor Fritz said.
The general contractor for this project is Streamline General Contractors, based in Lee’s Summit, Missouri.
“We want our clients to know that we will always do the right thing,” Partner Brian Wildschuetz said. “We build our clients’ projects as if they’re our own, and we stand behind what we do.”
Construction on Stone Ridge Villas is expected to be complete by the end of this year.
