Stone County Historical and Genealogical Society holds first music event

Picture
Several area musicians turned out for a good old fashioned jam session Saturday night.
The Stone County Historical and Genealogical Society hosted its first event inside the former American Legion Building on Main Street in Crane last Saturday night. People gathered to hear and play country music during the “open mic” style event. Music will be hosted every other week and everyone is invited to attend.
However, the intentions for the building certainly do not stop there. The Historic Society also plans to host bingo nights. It also invites community members to rent the space, for a small fee, to use for showers, parties, or meetings. The hope is for the space to be used as a community center for the area and help keep Crane’s Main Street alive.
The building still needs work. The Historic Society continues to seek volunteers to help with renovations and/or donate money and materials to make needed renovations to the building.
Anyone who’d like to get involved can call 417-230-0800 or 417-239-7527 or email SCHGS2016@gmail.com.
The County Historical Museum and Genealogical Center is open on Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.  The membership meeting is the second Saturday of the month at 2 p.m. You can learn more about the organization and find membership applications  online.
