The 2019 Stone County Tax Sale for properties with delinquent taxes will be Monday, August 26, at 10 a.m. in the Stone County Courthouse in Galena.
A listing of the properties that currently owe taxes is inserted in this week’s paper, and will be for the next three issues. Taxes are owed on over 300 properties at this time. However, property owners are able to pay their tax debt before the sale. The tax sale list will also be posted at the Stone County Collector's website, http://www.stonecountycollector.com/.
The annual Tax Sale is a way for the County to recoup some of the owed tax funds. Buyers can eventually take possession of the property, but for more information on that, contact the Stone County Collector’s Office.
This year, the county will also hold a Trustee’s Tax Sale of 127 properties that have been off the tax roles for over three years. “Some of these haven’t had taxes paid in 10 years,” said Vicki May, Stone County Collector of Revenue.
The county will release more information on this Trustee’s Auction in coming weeks. Continue to watch the Chronicle for information.
