Stone Co. Livestock & Forage Conf. Scheduled for Feb. 15 in Crane
January 25, 2018
Farmers and ranchers in Southwest Missouri are invited to attend this year’s Stone County Livestock and Forage Conference. “This long-running conference will continue to equip livestock producers to better manage their operations and provide quality beef products for consumers,” according to Tim Schnakenberg, University of Missouri Extension Agronomy Specialist based in Galena.
The program will focus this year on two main topics. Dr. Tim Evans, associate professor with the University of Missouri Veterinary Diagnostic Lab in Columba, will discuss reasons why there could be cattle death on farms, including poisonous weeds. He will provide tips for preventing these types of needless losses in the cattle herd. Dr. Craig Payne, state extension veterinarian from Columbia, will discuss vaccination strategies for cow-calf beef operations.
This conference will be held on Thursday, February 15, from 6 p.m. until 8:45 p.m., at the Crane First Baptist Church, located 2/10 mile south of Crane, on Highway 413 (30 Hallelujah Ave). Doors will open at 5:30 p.m.
This annual extension program has its roots in the county since 1931 and is provided by the Stone County University of Missouri Extension Center. This popular event marks its 88th year in Stone County.
There is a small fee of $5 to attend and participants are encouraged to preregister by February 12 to reserve their meal. A ribeye steak sandwich meal will be provided courtesy of Community National Bank, FCS Financial, Joplin Regional Stockyards, Old Missouri Bank, Simmons Bank, Southwest Missouri Cattlemen’s Association, Stone County Soil & Water Conservation District and V-Mar Farm Store.
It is important that attendees are preregistered with the Stone County Extension Center by February 12. Call 417-357-6812 for information or send payment to Stone County Extension Center, P.O. Box 345, Galena, MO 65656.
