The Southern Stone County Fire Protection Auxiliary will hold their annual chili cookoff event on Sunday, October 6, at the Reeds Spring High School.
This is the 15th year for the event, which raises funds to help out the Southern Stone County firefighters.
The event kicks off at 11 a.m. at the high school. It will last until 2 p.m.
This is the auxiliary’s sole fundraiser for the year. “We love putting this community event on and it is the only big fundraiser we do to help support our firefighters,” said Barbara Wolven.
In addition to the 32 different chilis, there will be a silent auction, booths, a cakewalk and a kids area.
Entry into the event is $5 for adults and $3 for children ages four to 12. Kids three and under get in for free.
Among the booths at the chili cookoff will be a Free Child ID booth, presented by the Masonic lodges of Kimberling City and Galena. Families will receive a USB drive with important information about their child, including photos, fingerprints and a physical description, in a format that is used by law enforcement should a child go missing.
The auxiliary exists to support Southern Stone County firefighters. They provide drinks and meals when firefighters are called to major fires, and help out in other ways whenever possible. “We help plan the annual banquet and provide gifts for the raffles that we do during the banquet,” said Wolven. The auxiliary also adopts two families at Christmas, provides a benevolence fund for the firefighters when they need it, and also participates in community events like the Community Day at Lifesong Church and the school readiness fair.
