The latest data from the Stone County Health Department show numbers still rising. Currently, there are 133 active cases in Stone County. Pam Burnett, Stone County Health Department Administrator. said from April 7-21 of this year, the county had 21 active cases compared to 233 cases from July 7-20.
The Delta variant remains the predominant strain affecting the area.
Lately, symptoms tend to have changed a bit from how the virus initially presented itself.
Recently symptoms have tended to be more gastrointestinal with nausea and diarrhea, nasal congestion, sore throat, and headaches.
Burnett says if you experience these symptoms, please get tested and quarantine to stem the spread of the virus.
County vaccination rates stand at just shy of 28%, while 31% have started the vaccination process.
Southwest Missouri, more specifically the Joplin, Springfield, Branson area, remains a significant hotspot in Missouri, if not the entire US, for COVID positivity.
The Health Department stands by its recommendation to get vaccinated. For those who choose not the same advice as has been given since March 2020 remains the same.
Wash hands regularly, wear masks, avoid poorly ventilated areas, practice social distancing measures.
Remember, vaccines are free and widely available at the health department and many area pharmacies.
