The Stone County Sheriff’s Office lobby and entrance will be inaccessible to the public this weekend, August 10 and 11, to allow construction crews to lay new tile and to allow the finishing touches to be made to the connection of the lobby with the judicial center expansion, which is completing Phase 1 this week.
The lobby will close at 4 p.m. on Friday, August 9, and will reopen at 8 a.m. on Monday, August 12.
Because of this closure, visitation has been rescheduled for Friday instead of the weekend. Additionally, the Sheriff’s office will be unable to accept conceal carry weapons applications or renewals nor sex offender registrations over the weekend.
Communication with the office will still be possible, however. There is an intercom system on the outside wall where you can page into the office, which will still be staffed all weekend.
For example, if a bondman needs to bond someone out, the bondsman will page the lobby and be escorted into the facility through another route. All other contact with the facility will be denied, according to a facebook post from the Sheriff’s Office.
“This weekend will cause some inconvenience for some people, but this is growing pains for the county,” said
Entrance to the sheriff’s office will be through the new addition starting Monday. Additionally, the Circuit Clerk’s offices will be open on the second floor of the new building.
On Monday morning, visitors will enter through the main entrance of the new addition, and pass through a metal detector and their belongings through an x-ray machine. “The change should go smooth,” said Sheriff Rader.
The Circuit Clerk has been housed next door to Galena City Hall since the start of construction. Their offices are closed today, August 8, and tomorrow, August 9, to complete the move to the new offices.
Additionally, the Prosecuting Attorney’s office is closed today and tomorrow while they move into temporary offices.
Phase 2 of the Judicial Center expansion includes remodelling the prosecuting attorney’s office and other areas in the existing judicial center facility.
