A Shell Knob woman is in jail after she allegedly assaulted a deputy and resisted arrest. According to affidavits of probable cause, used in filing charges, Deputy English of the Stone County Sheriff’s Office responded to an address on State Route H.
While attempting to investigate a report of utility tampering,Leslie Hammond, 36, allegedly assaulted the deputy by punching him and making threatening remarks. Further investigation reportedly uncovered methamphetamine.
The deputy arrived at the address and made contact with another resident of the home. While speaking with this witness, English was reportedly invited into the home by the witness.
Hammond, who was reportedly in a back bedroom when English was invited in, began to yell and curse at the deputy. Eventually, Hammond came out of the room and charged toward English “in an aggressive manner,” according to the probable cause statement.
Hammond allegedly ran into English then attempted to go back to the room. English grabbed her arm to detain her, at which point Hammond allegedly fell down in a hallway, with English attempting to restrain her hands. During this struggle, Hammond allegedly started to punch deputy English in the face and head with a closed fist.
Hammond allegedly attempted to pull something off English’s belt. He deployed his taser and was able to place Hammond in handcuffs. While taking her to the patrol vehicle, she allegedly brought up murders of police officers in other cities.
Upon returning to the residence, English was reportedly granted permission to search the area. A glass pipe with a residue was seen on top of Hammond’s purse. This pipe field tested positive for meth. English also reportedly found several baggies containing a residue consistent with methamphetamine.
Hammond is being held in the Stone County Jail without bond at the time of this writing. According to online court records, bond will be set at a bond hearing. The date for this hearing has not been set. Missouri courts have canceled most in-person proceedings until April 3.
Leslie Hammond is charged with assault in the third degree with a special victim, two counts of resisting arrest and one count of possession of a controlled substance, all felonies.
