Seven people were arrested last week in connection with two separate burglaries that happened in Stone County, according to Sheriff Doug Rader. In one case, the suspects were still on the property when authorities arrived.
In both cases, a neighbor noticed suspicious vehicles and called 911.
“We would like to thank the individuals who assisted us in making these arrests and would like all neighbors to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity that might be seen at a vacant house or at their neighbor’s house,” Rader said in a release. “If the individuals are meant to be there, they will be thankful they are being noticed and their house is still safe. If they are not to be there, we can make a difference by apprehending the suspects and prevent someone from losing their property.”
Burglary 1: Kimberling City
One purported burglary was stopped by Stone County Sheriff’s Deputies on Monday, April 9. According to the release, deputies responded to a residence on Stoneridge Center Road, just north of Kimberling City.
Deputies made contact with three individuals from Harrison, Ark., Howard Tate Baker, 41, Daniel Dean Benton, 37, and Ashley Rene Goodnight, 29. These individuals were allegedly taking items from the residence when the deputies arrived.
Deputies spoke with the individuals and also with the property owner, finally determining they were illegally taking items from the residence.
All three were taken into custody. They are each charged with felony burglary in the second degree, felony possession of a controlled substance and misdemeanor stealing. They were held in lieu of $15,000 cash or surety bond. As of presstime Tuesday afternoon, only Benton was still being held in the Stone County Jail.
Burglary 2: Clever
The second burglary reported in the release from the Stone County Sheriff’s Office allegedly occurred on Wednesday, April 11.
Deputies were dispatched to a vacant residence on State Highway M south of Clever for a report of four individuals seen carrying items out of the home. This reportedly occurred in the Possum Trot area in northern Stone County.
When deputies arrived, the individuals had already left the area. However, the witness had a description and tag number of the alleged vehicle. After checking the immediate area, deputies passed the information to the Christian County Sheriff’s office.
A vehicle matching the description given by the witness was located by Christian County at a residence in the Clever area. Stone County Deputies responded to the residence. Deputies reportedly observed items in the vehicle that were taken from the home in Stone County. The owner of that home assisted in this determination.
Four individuals were taken into custody. All are charged with burglary in the second degree, a Class D felony. The individuals are: Norman Cecil Busbey, 45, of Nixa; Jesse Allen Light, 26, of Springfield; Brandy Lea Ann Murphy, 33, of Springfield and Serenity Cheyene Coffer, 31, of Billings.
As of presstime, Light and Murphy remain in the Stone County Jail, where they are held in lieu of $20,000 cash or surety bond. Online court records have not yet been updated to indicate when Coffer and Busbey posted bond. Their next hearing date is to be determined.
