Senator Announces Federal Grant For Reeds Spring Police Vehicle

September 6, 2018
U.S. Senator Claire McCaskill announced $19,500 in federal funding has been awarded to the City of Reeds Spring for the purchase of a new police vehicle.
“This is fantastic news for the Reeds Spring Police Department and the community as a whole,” McCaskill said. “It’s essential that every community in Missouri has the resources needed to be safe and secure.”
The $19,500 grant was awarded through the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Rural Development Program and will go toward replacing the existing police car that was involved in an accident and became unusable.
McCaskill is a strong advocate for ensuring law enforcement has the tools and resources they need to succeed. In May, she introduced legislation to support state and local law enforcement agencies with behavioral health crisis response training for officers responding to individuals with mental illness or a substance abuse disorder.
McCaskill is also a longtime supporter of grant funding for state and local law enforcement, announcing more than $200,000 toward police vehicles in Missouri last year. She also supports the Justice Department’s Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program, which supports state and local governments to use a broad range of activities to prevent and control crime.
