River Rescue Clean Up from Shelvin Rock to Hooten Town is June 12

June 10, 2021
This Saturday, June 12, the James River Basin Partnership and Ozark Mountain Paddlers will be hosting their annual River Rescue cleanup where volunteers will work together to remove trash from our local waterways. This year, approximately 80 participants will be launching canoes and kayaks from Shelvin Rock Access and floating approximately 6 miles to the takeout at Hooten Town Canoe Rental & Campground.
Check-in will take place at the Hooten Town Campground from 8:00am to 8:45am. Participants will shuttle up to Shelvin Rock Access and float back down to Hooten Town where volunteers will help unload hundreds of pounds of trash, tires, and scrap metal. Participants are estimated to begin arriving at the takeout at roughly 12:00-12:30 pm. Both Shelvin Rock Access and the take-out at Hooten Town are prime locations for photographs and interviews. See attached map and directions below.
Shelvin Rock Access Directions: From Nixa, take Highway 14 west, then Route M south 4 miles, and Shelvin Rock Road west 2 miles.
Hooten Town Campground: 1254 Hootentown Rd, Crane, MO 65633, US
Cell phone service is very spotty in this area. We encourage you to print off a hard copy of directions before heading to the event.
