Rep. Hudson Secures Additional Funding For Counties And Civil Air Patrol

March 19, 2020
State Rep. Brad Hudson has once again been able to utilize his service on the House Budget Committee to secure additional funding that will be beneficial for residents in his district and all Missourians. Hudson was able to secure approval for two amendments as the committee conducted a marathon Sunday hearing to ready the budget bills for floor debate.

In one amendment, Hudson was able to add $502,714 to the assessment maintenance reimbursement funds that go to counties. Hudson said the amendment could mean more funding for law enforcement, as well as road and bridge repair.

“When I served as a Stone County elected official I was able to use state assessment maintenance funds to offset the amount of local general revenue money that my office used to operate. Saving my county money in this way allowed for there to be more funds available to potentially help with law enforcement, road and bridge and other vital areas,” said Hudson, R-Cape Fair. “We ask a lot of our local officials and I am proud to have had an opportunity as a member of the House Budget Committee to take a stand against unfunded and underfunded mandates on county government.”

Hudson’s second amendment allocates $66,500 to the Civil Air Patrol. Hudson noted there are more than 1,000 volunteers serving in the Civil Air Patrol, which assists citizens by responding to natural disasters.

“This money would help provide these dedicated individuals with some much needed updated equipment allowing for better communication and data collection so that our communities can have the opportunity to access disaster relief funds more quickly,” said Hudson.

This marks the second time in his two years serving on the House Budget Committee that Hudson has been successful in adding amendments to the state spending plan. In 2019 he secured an additional $1.5 million for the Missouri Division of Tourism.

The bills that make up the state operating budget now head to the House floor for discussion. House leaders plan to have the bills approved and sent to the Senate by Thursday, March 19.
