Reeds Spring Paraprofessional Earns State-Wide Award

February 20, 2020
PictureReeds Spring Middle School’s Brenda Miller has been named the 2020 Paraprofessional of the Year by the Missouri Council for Exceptional Children.
For the past 23 years, Brenda Miller has worked with students at Reeds Spring Middle School, encouraging them to enjoy school and also motivating them to work through their personal challenges. Her consistent and caring nature led the Missouri Council for Exceptional Children to name Miller the 2020 Paraprofessional of the Year.

“I was excited, humbled, grateful,” Miller said. “Very surprised, I would say, but honored.”

As a paraprofessional, Miller provides support to students with disabilities throughout the day. She is emotionally invested in the lives of the children she serves.

One former student said, “Once you work with Ms. Miller you become one of her kids. I became one of her kids back in middle school and she is still helping to keep me on track as a senior.”

Miller is known for showing genuine care and love to anyone that has the opportunity to be around her.

“Brenda Miller is overwhelmingly deserving of this award,” said Reeds Spring Middle School Principal Casey Carpenter. “She works long hours each week and touches many lives daily. It is an understatement to say that Reeds Spring Middle School would be a different place without her.”

Miller will receive her award at the 4th Annual Spring Collaborative Conference Awards Presentation in Columbia, MO on March 4.

“What we do here is important. It means a lot to me,” Miller said. “You want to know that you’re making a difference and I know that I am.”
