Reeds Spring Man Dies In Multi-Vehicle Crash

April 4, 2019

Isaac Estes-Jones

James Roe, of Reeds Spring, lost his life last week after his motorcycle was hit by a car that crossed the Highway 65 median in Christian County.

According to a Missouri State Highway Patrol crash report, Roe, 67, was driving a 2010 Harley Davidson FLTC Ultra Shrine motorcycle north on Highway 65 on Wednesday, March 27, when the incident occurred at 3:18 p.m. Roe was riding with several other motorcyclists, two of whom were also injured in the incident.

The report states that a 2017 Chevrolet Impala, driven by Douglas J. Dale, 48, of Nixa, was heading south on Highway 65 when, about five miles south of Highlandville, the Impala crossed the median and struck the motorcycle ridden by Roe and another, a 2016 Harley Davidson FLHTK, driven by Michael D. Jones, 70. Jones’ city of residence was still listed as unknown as of presstime on the MSHP crash report website.

A third motorcycle, a 2008 Harley Davison FLHTCUI, driven by Gerald McLaughlin, 67, of Springfield, hit debris from the first crash. That vehicle then crashed.

James Roe was pronounced deceased at Cox South Hospital in Springfield by Dr. Timothy Woods at 4:07 p.m. He was wearing a helmet. This is Troop D’s 22nd fatality for 2019.

Douglas Dale, driver of the Impala, suffered serious injuries in the crash. He was taken to Mercy Hospital in Springfield for treatment. He was reportedly wearing a seat belt at the time of the incident.

Michael Jones and Gerald McLaughlin both suffered serious injuries and were wearing helmets. They were taken by EMS to Cox South Hospital for treatment.

The 2017 Chevrolet Impala and 2010 Harley Davidson FLTC were totaled in the crash. They were towed from the scene by Ozark Auto.

The 2016 and 2008 Harley Davidson motorocycles had extensive damage. They were also towed by Ozark Auto.

This incident was investigated by Trooper T. L. Harmon, with assistance by Trooper J. S. Schwartz, Trooper R. R. Wilkins, and MCIU Crash Team #3 Sergeant S. R. Richardson.
