A Reeds Spring man charged with child abuse is in the Stone County Jail on $100,000 bond. Douglas M. Zwicky, 46, allegedly beat his daughter with a belt, causing bruising and abrasions.
According to a statement of probable cause, used in filing charges, Zwicky’s daughter talked to the Reeds Spring School Resource Officer and Department of Family Services after a hotline call. The victim reportedly had bruises and abrasions like those caused by being hit with a belt.
According to the report, Zwicky fell asleep on the couch. When he woke up, the victim had almost started a fire while playing and the house was filling with smoke. Zwicky allegedly spanked the victim because she would not to admit what happened. The victim alleges that Zwicky spanked her in every room in the house. She tried to get away, but he allegedly chased her around the home, scaring her.
Zwicky reportedly told Detective Landreth, of the Stone County Sheriff’s Office, that he felt he spanked his daughter too much after Landreth told him that the victim had injuries from the spanking.
Zwicky was arrested on Wednesday, January 10. He is being held in the Stone County Jail in lieu of $100,000 cash or surety bond.
