All fifth and sixth-grade students in the Reeds Spring School District will benefit from a nearly $1,000 grant. Toshiba America Foundation awarded the money to Reeds Spring Intermediate School teacher Dr. Thomas O’Connor to be used for STEM projects. STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math.
“This grant allows both virtual and seated students in the Intermediate School access to an online program encouraging STEM and scientific thinking,” Dr. O’Connor said. “The resource will allow all students to engage in science and the world around them.”
Toshiba America Foundation’s grants fund projects designed by classroom teachers. This “direct-to-teacher” approach brings immediate results. Teachers can change the way they teach STEM subjects because the grant supports equipment for hands-on experiments and inquiry-based approaches to the curriculum. The grants make the classroom a more exciting place for both teachers and students.
