Reeds Spring Hires New Football Coach

The Reeds Spring Wolves will be under new leadership when they hit the football field next fall. The district hired Andy McFarland to be the new head coach and a physical education teacher. McFarland was previously the head coach at Forsyth High School. He replaces Lance Gosch, who stepped down to focus on his duties as athletic director.

“I’m really, really excited to be here,” McFarland said. “I can’t believe it’s real, it’s a dream job. Everybody says once you get here you don’t want to leave.”

Before coaching at Forsyth, McFarland worked at Parkview High School and Hillcrest High School in Springfield. He has typically run a spread offense but says good coaches are always growing, learning and changing.

“My philosophy as a play-caller is, it’s about players, not plays. We’re going to try to get our athletes the ball in space and let them make some plays,” McFarland said.

The new coach said there’s more to the job than just calling plays. McFarland is a big believer in a core values-based program.

“We’re going to build everything we do through integrity, consistency, enthusiasm and grit,” McFarland said. “We want to lay a foundation with those core values for a life as a member of society, to be a husband or a father, to build a happy and successful life.”

McFarland’s wife, Kirsten, is a school librarian and they have two children, a daughter in third grade and a son in first grade.

“I can’t wait to get going. Go Wolves!”
