The 2019 Reeds Spring Cajun Days event is Saturday, May 18, on the field at Reeds Spring City Hall. This year’s event promises fun, food and music. Cajun Days starts at 9:30 a.m. and will last until 6 p.m. with free admission.

Ben Fisher, Promotional Chairman for the Rotary Club of Table Rock Lake, which hosts Cajun Days each year, said a pageant was originally scheduled because the club always works to expand and make the event better each year.

“The Rotary Club wants to make Cajun Days a little bigger and a little better each year. We know the pageant at the Crane Broiler Festival has been popular, so we thought this might be a good way to get more families to attend,” Fisher said.

Unfortunately, due to lack of entrants, the Little Miss Cajun Days pageant was canceled for this year.

Live music will start at 12 noon this year, with the Flyin’ Buzzards Bluegrass Band. Other musical acts slated to appear this weekend are The Denzil and Jonathan Band, The Lori Locke Band and Shawn Campbell and the Band Rescue.

Last year, over 90 vendors and other booths participated in the event.

Cajun Days started in Reeds Spring 11 years ago after an area business owner, Flavie Lear, wanted to do something to draw more people into the town. Over 150 people came to that first event, held in the Reeds Spring Pizza Company parking lot. It has continued to grow since then. It became a city-wide event after the third year and was moved to its current location at the Flavie Lear Soccer Field at Reeds Spring City Hall.

Several years ago, Lear moved out of the area but wanted to see Cajun Days continue. Three years ago, Rotary Club of Table Rock Lake became host of the event.

“Cajun Days benefits for the community in two ways. Number one, it’s free fun! Number two, it allows the Rotary Club to fund important projects in the community,” said Fisher.

All proceeds from the event, which includes vendors and community booths, live music, and food, go to fund Rotary Club community grants. “Last year, we awarded $5,000 in grants to nonprofits in the area,” said Fisher.

Beyond just benefiting the community and area nonprofits, the event has also strengthened the Rotary Club. “I think this event has brought members of the Rotary Club closer together. When you see that your hard work pays off and helps people, it makes you want to do more.” said Fisher.
