Water issues were on tap, once again at the Reeds Spring City Council meeting on Mar. 9.
Alderwoman Susan Rogers voiced her concerns about the city water supply in the event of emergency weather conditions. Rogers referred Abilene, Texas, where power outages and frigid temperatures last month caused city water to be cut off.
The results were freezing pipes and water lines. Residents were left without water for several days.
Three wells deliver water to Reeds Spring residents. However, only one of them can sustain the entire area should such an emergency occur. The board decided to hook a generator to that well so water could continue to be supplied in a power outage.
Mayor, Steve Rogers, brought up the condition of the spring house. He said the roof is buckling and that one of the columns was beginning to sag. The roof is over 60 years ago. After several minutes of discussion, the Council decided to remove the roof until repairs can be made temporarily.
A resident had volunteered to repair the roof, but the idea was dismissed due to a lack of licensing and possible liability issues.
