Purdy Woman Dies  in Wreck at Elsey on Friday

February 15, 2018
Isaac Estes-Jones

A woman from Purdy lost her life over the weekend in a head on collision on Friday. The crash happened south of Crane, less than half a mile north of the church on Highway 413.
According to a Missouri State Highway Patrol crash report, Brandi L. Werneburg, 33, of Purdy, was driving a 2001 Chevrolet Suburban north on Highway 413 when the wreck occurred at 5 p.m. on Friday, February 9.
According to the report, Werneburg’s vehicle crossed the center line and hit a 2018 Ford Econoline van head-on. The van was driven by 45 year old Linwood R. Chase, of Merriam Woods, Mo.
Both Chase and Werneburg were air lifted to Cox South Hospital in Springfield. According to the North Stone/Northeast Barry County Fire Protection District, both Mercy Lifeline 1 and Cox Air Care 1 helicopters responded to the crash.
Linwood Chase suffered serious injuries in the wreck. He was wearing a safety device.
Brandi L. Werneburg was pronounced deceased by Dr. Woods at Cox South Hospital at 6:40 p.m.
Werneburg is Missouri State Highway Patrol Troop D’s 12th fatality for 2018.
Both the 2018 Ford Econoline van and the 2001 Chevrolet Suburban were totaled in the crash. They were towed by Johnson’s Wrecker of Crane.
This incident was investigated by Trooper Henderson.
