The Stone County Sheriff’s Office is seeking information about a vehicle that hit and killed a Reeds Spring man in the early hours of Sunday, August 9.

According to a Missouri State Highway Patrol crash report, Brandon C. Small, 43, of Reeds Spring, was walking down Missouri 413 (Galena Corners), south of Galena, when the incident occurred sometime around 3:30 a.m. on Sunday, August 9.

Small was apparently struck by an unknown vehicle that left the scene before authorities arrived. Information about this vehicle is sought by the Stone County Sheriff’s Office.

According to a social media post from the office, the vehicle is believed to be a 1997-2004 Ford Mustang. Anyone with information about the driver or vehicle should call Missouri State Highway Patrol at 417-383-6868 or Stone County Sheriff’s Office at 417-357-6116. As of press time on Tuesday, August 11, the color of the car is unknown.

Brandon Small was pronounced deceased by Stone County Coroner John Cunnyngham at 4:45 a.m. Small is Troop D’s 68th fatality for 2020.

Information shared by the Sheriff’s Office does not match what was provided by Highway Patrol. According to the Sheriff’s Office Facebook post, the victim was “a 41 yr old Crane male.” Highway Patrol indicates Small was 43 and from Reeds Spring. It is unclear why the two details differ. In general, this publication relies on the documentation from Highway Patrol crash reports when covering accident information.

This incident was investigated by Master Sergeant S. R. Rowe, of Missouri State Highway Patrol.
