April 5, 2018
Isaac Estes-Jones
Tuesday, April 3, was the General Municipal Election across the state of Missouri.
In Stone County, 3,632 votes were cast, for a turn out of 16.54% of the 21,960 registered voters in the county.
The Stone County Health Department’s new building proposal, which would have increased personal property taxes for Stone County residents was voted down. 2,035 people voted against the measure (56.53%). 1,564 (43.47%) voted for the new building. For the time being, the Health Department will remain in its current location.
Galena’s city board will now include Deana Wells, John Arrington, Fred Barela and Vonda Barela. The Barelas will serve one year terms on the board, with Wells and Arrington having two year terms.
Wells earned 42.7% of the 89 votes cast, with Arrington earning 31.46%. Sean Lancaster came in third with 22.47% of the vote.
Crane’s city leadership will remain for the next year. Current alderman Tena Reel received 57.69% of the votes (45 ballots), beating challenger Scott Williams, who received 42.31% (33 votes).
Crane, Marionville and Clever schools will all be doing construction next year after their bond issues passed.
Crane School’s Proposition 4, a $1.25 million dollar no-tax-increase bond had 173 votes cast for the measure and only 90 against.
The Marionville and Clever School District bond issues had mixed results in Stone County, but over all, they passed. The total votes cast for Marionville’s bond were 358 for the measure and 100 against including 15 for and 10 against from Stone County. Clever had 279 total votes for the bond measure and 254 total against, including 38/48 from Stone County.
In depth coverage of the election results will be included in next week’s paper.

*Note: A mis-print in the amount of the Crane School Bond has been corrected. The original text read $2.5 million, but should have been $1.25 million. This has been corrected in the text above.
