Robert Pliler, 25, formerly of Branson West, pled guilty and was sentenced on charges of First Degree Statutory Rape and First Degree Statutory Sodomy in Stone County Circuit Court this week. Pliler will be serving twelve years in the Missouri Department of Corrections.
During previous court proceedings, the victim testified that she knew Pliler through a relative and had met him on a couple of occasions while she was spending time with the relative. She said that there were two different instances when he had touched her sexually. The first time she had stayed with her relative and during the night the defendant followed her to the bathroom, stopped her, put his hands down her pants, and touched her on her genitals. A few days later, the victim was again with her relative and they all went for a walk. She was left alone with the defendant at an abandoned building and he attempted to have sex with her. The victim was twelve years old at the time of these events.
According to the victim, she was told not to tell and she did not for a short period of time. However, holding “it” in was “stressing her out” and she finally told her grandmother who called law enforcement. Stone County detective, Brian Landreth, investigated the case. His investigation included attending an interview of the victim at the Lakes Area Child Advocacy Center, talking to numerous witnesses, interrogating the suspect, and obtaining search warrants to analyze the cell phones of various people thought to be involved. His investigation was turned over to the Stone County Prosecutor’s office with a request the Pliler be charged.
Based on the investigation, Stone County Prosecutor, Matt Selby, filed charges on Pliler for statutory rape, statutory sodomy, and child molestation. The case was set for jury trial beginning on July 18, 2018, however, the defendant pled guilty at his pre-trial conference on Monday, June 4. According to the prosecutor’s office the defendant has a prior conviction for molesting a child and should serve almost the entire twelve years before being eligible for release. If he is released he will then be under supervision with the Missouri Board of Probation and Parole for life and will also be required to register for life as a sex offender where ever he lives.
