A more than 30-year tradition continued in Kimberling City last Friday night, July 2, as people gathered to watch fireworks over Table Rock Lake. The fireworks show near the Kimberling City bridge could be seen by land or by water and is one of the area’s most
popular Fourth of July holiday events.
“It is a beautiful display, high above
Table Rock Lake and has become a family tradition celebrated by many of the residents and visitors to the lake. It’s a wonderful time to celebrate family, our community, and America,” Chamber of Commerce President Sheila Thomas said.
The annual fireworks display is sponsored by the Table Rock Lake Chamber of Commerce and solely supported by community and business donations.
“It is always nerve-wracking to plan because we have to commit to the show in January then hope we can raise the money. The wonderful thing, though, is that our community has always come through. To me, it feels like a holiday gift we’re giving ourselves and our visitors,” Thomas said.
The fireworks began at dark, about 9:20 p.m. Countless boats anchored or idled near the bridge to watch the show. Many boats displayed American flags and glowing lights and played patriotic music. On land, groups of people gathered near Harter House and the Kimberling City shopping center to see the show. However, the large display could be seen throughout the surrounding area at homes, resorts, and even along the shore of Table Rock Lake.
“It’s really impossible to count the number of spectators, but if you’ve ever looked across the lake at all the boats and been on land near Harter House and the shopping center, it is easy to believe it is several thousand,” Thomas said.
