A Galena man spent at least part of New Year’s Eve in the hospital after he was hit while changing a flat tire.

According to a Missouri State Highway Patrol crash report, Charles D. Smith, 40, of Galena, was stopped on Charity School Road on Tuesday, December 31, due to a flat tire on his vehicle.

At approximately 4:50 p.m., while Smith was attempting to change the flat, he was struck by an unknown vehicle, suffering minor injuries.

The Highway Patrol report does not indicate what sort of vehicle Smith was working on, nor do they know information about the vehicle that struck him.

Smith was taken by a private vehicle to Mercy Hospital in Aurora for treatment of minor injuries.

This incident was investigated by Trooper B. A. Hall.
