Ozark Mountain Regional Health Care (OMRHC) will be closing its doors no later than December 5. Many native residents of Crane and the surrounding county called OMRCH home. “We have decided not to renew our lease due to the difficulty of operating under restraints caused by the Covid 19 crisis.” said Melanie Irwin, administrator of the facility, “It has caused senior care facilities nationwide to experience similar problems, and many of them are shutting down as well. The facility would simply resume operations under new management if this situation had occurred during more precedented times,” said Irwin, “but the residence will have to be shut down permanently.” “The landowner is unable to find a new tenant to manage the home, but we will work with our residents and employees to help them find new homes and jobs,” said Irwin.

You can put in a transfer order, and they will transfer you to another facility,” said one
employee, “but you lose your insurance; you lose everything because technically when you transfer, it’s a new job and you have to work up to 90 days full time to get insurance, so a lot of people who have been there for 20-25 years have to go back and start all over.” According to the employee, 99% of the residents of OMRHC are from the immediate local area. “A lot of them don’t have family left,” said the employee. No one could answer as to when a comparable facility might be available to senior citizens in this area again.
