A Nixa man is in the Stone County Jail after he was allegedly found with meth last week. According to affidavits of probable cause, Donnie D. Smith, 35, was stopped by Missouri State Highway Patrol Sergeant S. Rowe on Thursday, September 6, just north of Branson West.
According to the report, Rowe noticed that the Harley Davidson motorcycle driven by Smith had expired plates. As the Trooper pulled up behind the motorcycle, Smith reportedly pulled over on Highway 13 and dismounted. He was allegedly crouching down next to the bike, digging in one of the compartments. Smith reportedly stopped what he was doing when he was so ordered.
A computer check reported that Smith did not have a motorcycle endorsement on his license, which Smith reportedly admitted to. He was cited for not having the endorsement, for the expired tag, and for not using an approved helmet. Smith allegedly denied having any illegal substances but gave permission for a search.
In the course of the search, Sgt. Rowe allegedly found a meth pipe in one of the saddle bags, which Smith said he forgot about and that he had last used the drug two days prior. A further search of the motorcycle allegedly uncovered a sock containing two baggies of meth and rolling papers in a space around the motor. Two marijuana pipes were also reportedly found on Smith’s person.
Smith was placed under arrest and booked in to the Stone County Jail on charges of possession of a controlled substance and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. He is being held in lieu of $30,000 cash or surety bond.
