faces charges of rape, armed criminal action

March 22, 2018
PictureNathan Johnson was arrested on Tuesday, February 28, for allegedly participating in several crimes in January.
Isaac Estes-Jones
Nathan Johnson was arrested at the end of February. He is now held on a total bond of over $150,000, at least $50,000 of which is cash only.
Johnson has five active cases in Stone County, stemming from events that allegedly occurred in 2016, October 2017, and January and February 2018.
Johnson was was allegedly the driver in the vehicle when Justin Tarwater is said to have shot a gun out of a car toward a man in Hurley at the end of January 2018.
Johnson faces charges of Statutory Rape that were filed last August and Property Damage from October. On the rape count, once Johnson was arrested in August on $25,000 bond, that bond was lowered to $5,000 in October. Johnson posted bond October 13. He then missed a court hearing and a failure to appear warrant was issued. Johnson was released on his own recognizance for the misdemeanor property damage charge from October. Johnson failed to appear in court in February of 2018 on this charge, resulting in another $25,000 bond failure to appear warrant.
Moving into 2018, Johnson allegedly was driving the vehicle from which shots were fired in Hurley in January of this year. According to statements of probable cause, used in filing charges against him, Johnson was driving the red car from which Justin Tarwater allegedly shot at a man on January 26. Johnson faces $50,000 cash-only bond and faces the same charges as Tarwater: felony unlawful use of a weapon by exhibiting and the class B felony of discharging a firearm from a motor vehicle.
Johnson also faces a charge of statutory sodomy in the second degree from an incident alleged to have occurred in the first week of January. According to a statement of probable cause on that matter, Johnson alleged forced a minor to perform sex acts with him. He also allegedly told the victim that he would “stab her to death” if she told anyone.
Nathan Johnson is being held in Stone County Jail in lieu of $152,000 combined bond.
