MU Extension Honors Watson/Wallis Century Farm

October 31, 2019

Century farms and ranches have shaped the nation. In 1976, the Centennial Farm project was initiated in Missouri to award certificates to persons owning farms that had been in the same family for 100 years or more. This year in Stone County, MU Extension honored multiple Missouri Century Farm families during the recent farm family dinner hosted by the Stone County MU Extension and Council. Table Rock Community Bank graciously underwrote the dinner, catered by Flat Creek Restaurant.

This year’s recipients include Carl and Karen Watson and family for their six generation farm near Clever. Karen’s great-grandmother, Missouri Wright and her husband, Robert, purchased the land in 1868. The original farm was around 170 acres and was primarily logged. The Wrights had nine kids and passed on the land to them. Currently, the family is raising beef cattle on their now 600+ acres. The farm is divided among Carl and Karen’s children who have built homes of their own on the land; daughter Teresa Wallis and her husband, Don and their daughters Riley and Alex, son Rob Watson and his wife, Holly. Rob and Holly’s two sons, Tyler and Jeremy, grew up on the farm.
