Motorcyclist Airlifted After Head-On Collision At Elsey

A 23 year old Springfield man was flown to the hospital after hitting a truck near Elsey on Sunday, June 3. According to a Missouri State Highway Patrol crash report, Robert A. Nelson, 23, of Springfield, was driving a 2014 Kawasaki motorcycle south on Highway 413 when the crash occurred at 8:40 p.m.
Nelson reportedly failed to navigate a curve on the highway and crossed the centerline. He then hit a 2006 GMC Sierra head-on. The Sierra was driven by Christina B. Elmore, 40, of Marionville.
After hitting the Sierra, Nelson’s motorcycle continued off the left side of the road and threw him from the vehicle. Although he was reportedly wearing a safety device, Nelson suffered serious injuries. He was flown to Cox South Hospital in Springfield for treatment.
Elmore’s 2006 GMC Sierra had only minor damage it was driven from the scene. She did not report any injuries in the crash.
Nelson’s 2014 Kawasaki Ninja 300 was totaled in the collision. It was towed by Double Eagle Towing of Crane.
This incident was investigated by Corporal J. W. Choate of the Missouri State Highway Patrol Troop D.
