Moore Murder Trial Moved To Christian County

January 31, 2019

Isaac Estes-Jones

Following a request for a change of venue by her attorney, Dakota Moore will stand trial in Christian County.

Online court documents indicate the Moore will be moved to the Christian County Jail on Tuesday, February 26 ahead of a February 27 court appearance before Honorable Judge Laura Johnson.

Moore is being represented by Brady Musgrave, a special public defender. Christian County Prosecuting Attorney Amy Fite was designated a special prosecutor early in the case after the Stone County prosecutor had a conflict within the office.

Moore faces a charge of first degree murder and several other felony charges after the death of her infant child in September of 2017. The state alleges that Moore intentionally cause the death of the child.

Moore, now 19 years old, was originally charged with involuntary manslaughter in 2017. In May of 2018, those original charges were dropped and new charges were filed after further examination by a medical examiner.

During Moore’s initial interview with Stone County authorities on September 15, 2017, she allegedly admitted to kicking the child. The probable cause statement states, “Moore began to cry and stated that she didn’t mean to kill [the victim].”

Further, the state alleges that Moore committed the crimes of first degree domestic assault and child abuse leading to serious physical injury.

The case was originally assigned to Judge Blankenship in Stone County. Then, Judge Goodman was assigned the case on December 3, 2018, after a November motion, according to online court documents.
