About 16 people from McCord Bend Village came out on Saturday, April 21, to clean up trash along McCord Bend road. Mandi Carr, Trustee Chairperson of the Village, headed up the effort. Some of the trash had been buried for years and years by the looks of it.
The cleanup started at 9 a.m. in the village. About 10 children and six adults participated, according to Carr. Of those six adults, Rick Cool and Billy Taylor were still picking up trash along the road at 2 p.m. They had picked up one flatbed worth of garbage already, and had picked up at least three more bags
“Some of this stuff has been here forever,” Cool said. “I mean look at this glass Pepsi bottle. They haven’t looked like that since I was a kid.”
“I’m just trying to make things better. I’m wanting people to have good things to say about McCord Bend,” Carr said.
“Most of the trash has been fast food wrappers and fountain drinks,” Taylor said. “Things you aren’t getting around here. So, either they are leaving home with it and toss it out, or they are on the way home and throw it out the window less than a mile from home,” he concluded.
Other interesting trash found along the roadway included at least six tires. “Some of these looked like they were brand new, but have cracked from being outside for so long.”
The Village also brought in two 30 yard dumpsters for residents to use to help clean up their properties and belongings. “The Village provided two 30 yard dumpsters for the community to dispose of unwanted trash,” Carr said.
“A big shout out to my great neighbors in the Bend. Great job picking up trash on McCord Bend Road. The road looks awesome. What a great example to set for the kids and the community. You guys are awesome!” Carr said.
