Stone County deputies arrested Charles Edward Hallett, 34, of Seligman, early Wednesday morning, Sept. 1, 2020, after a two-day manhunt prompted by the alleged shooting of a Seligman resident.
According to a probable cause statement filed by Detective Doug Henry of the Barry County Sheriff’s Office, Charles Hallett of Seligman is charged with first-degree assault, armed criminal action, unlawful use of a weapon, and unlawful possession of a firearm.
On Monday, Aug. 30, Barry County Deputies responded to a Seligman residence, where a man had been reported shot in the upper right chest.
After deputies arrived on scene, the victim stated that Hallett had shot him. The victim said he had confronted Hallett about driving by his Cassville home and harassing him and his family. The victim stated that he parked his car in the driveway, where Hallett sat in his vehicle. Hallett then allegedly shot the victim and sped away on West Roller Ridge.
The same day, the victim’s wife was interviewed and stated that Hallett had been harassing them after they discovered Hallett’s offense as a tier-three sex offender. The victim’s wife said she had small children and had asked Hallett to leave and never return. Hallett then allegedly became angry and drove by the victim’s home, and sent threatening text messages.
The victim’s wife stated that Mercy hospital informed her the victim’s lung had collapsed. It was later reported by Detective Doug Henry that the victim is in stable condition.
Hallet is being held in the Barry County Jail on a bond of $200,000.
