A Bates City man was reportedly found with drugs while he was being booked into the Stone County Jail on unrelated charges last week. According to affidavits of probable cause, used in filing charges, Shawn Carley, 43, was arrested after being found driving an allegedly stolen vehicle.
The vehicle was reported as stolen out of Branson. The owner reportedly spotted the vehicle being driven in Stone County and called the authorities. Deputy English, with the Stone County Sheriff’s Office, took the call. He stopped the vehicle on Highway 13 in Kimberling City and confirmed it was the vehicle that was reported stolen.
The driver, Shawn Carley, was allegedly driving with a revoked license. He was placed under arrest on suspicion of tampering with a motor vehicle and for driving while revoked.
When Carley was being booked into the Stone County Jail, he was allegedly found with a digital scale. The booking officer, Corporal Becker, wrote in the probable cause statement that he tested the scale for residue. The test allegedly came back positive for methamphetamine.
Shawn Carley is being held in the Stone County Jail in lieu of $25,000 cash-only bond. He is charged with first degree tampering with a motor vehicle and possession of a controlled substance, both Class D felonies. He also has related misdemeanor charges of driving while revoked and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.
