A 32 year old Blue Eye man was charged with tampering with a vehicle after he allegedly stole a work truck from the business across the street from his family’s home following a disagreement.
According to affidavits of probable cause, used in filing charges, a work/utility truck was reported stolen from a business on Highway 86 in southern Stone County on December 17. At an undetermined point in December, Chad Fitzwater reportedly got into a fight with a family member he was staying with. Fitzwater left the home, but the relative could not recall the exact date the fight happened. The home is directly across the street from the business where the vehicle was stolen.
The stolen vehicle was found abandoned in Greene County about two days later. When the truck was stolen, it was backed through a metal gate, causing property damage. In the same area where the vehicle was recovered, officers from the Greene County Sheriff’s Office arrested Fitzwater with an allegedly stolen scooter. Documents from the stolen work truck were allegedly found in Fitzwater’s clothing.
Fitzwater is charged with the Class D felony of tampering with a motor vehicle in Stone County. As of presstime, charges had not been filed in Greene County. Fitzwater is being held in the Stone County Jail in lieu of $5,000 bond, reduced from $25,000 when he was arrested on December 29.
