The Civil Air Patrol is a congressionally chartered, federally supported non-profit corporation that serves as the official civilian auxiliary of the United States Air Force and is divided into eight regions. The North Central Region is comprised of Kansas, Missouri, Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota and South Dakota.

Table Rock Lake Composite Squadron 147 is the local squadron of Civil Air Patrol and is based at Branson Regional Airport in Hollister, MO.

The 2020 Civil Air Patrol North Central Region/Kansas City Wing Conference was held on May 22-24 and it was a first of its kind for the Region. Because of the COVID pandemic, the Region held their conference virtually and it was an outstanding success.

Annual Region/Wing Conferences are a time for learning and socializing with other Civil Air Patrol members as well as being singled out for outstanding performance in different areas. This year there were 2 members from the Squadron 147 honored. Also receiving an award was the Branson Airport.

Major Greg Lewis received the Colonel Edwin Lewis, Jr. award for Incident Staff Member of The Year from the North Central Region. Major Lewis has made sure the necessary training was provided for Squadron 147 and other members of the Missouri Wing to receive their Emergency Service qualifications for several years. He and his wife Major Amanda Lewis have facilitated a weekend-long bivouac training at their home for the past five years. This bivouac includes training sessions provide as close to real-world training as is possible for Emergency Services taskings. Major Lewis also has provided classroom training for Ground Team Members, Ground Team Leaders and Urban Direction Finders. Major Lewis joined Civil Air Patrol in 2013 and is currently the Group V Commander. Pictured is Major Greg Lewis.

Cadet Captain Taran Fletcher was awarded the Frank Brewer Memorial Aerospace Award for Cadet of the Year from the North Central Region. Cadet Captain Fletcher’s accomplishments are many and varied, including assisting with Aerospace Education, rocketry and MARC (Model Aircraft and Remote Control) training at the squadron level and at schools in Forsyth area. Cadet Captain Fletcher is interested in becoming a drone observer and pilot and has participated in training towards this goal. He also training in gliders and was selected to the Southeast Region National Flight Academy-Glider in Tullahoma, Tennessee. Cadet Captain has demonstrated STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) kits are many community events, including the Air Power History Tour in September 2019 and the Wings Over Whiteman Airshow in June 2019. He has participated in CyberPatriot and attended the Cyber Defense Training Academy National Cadet Special Activity at Lakeland, AFB in June 2019, receiving a Graduation Exercise Top Performer Award. His dream is to become an F-22 pilot and is working diligently towards that goal. These are just a sampling of Cadet Captain Fletcher’s accomplishments during his time with Civil Air Patrol. Branson Regional Airport received the Frank Brewer Memorial Aerospace Award for an Organization at the Region Conference. Mr. Jeff Bourke, Executive Director of Branson Airport has worked with Civil Air Patrol and Squadron 147 over the last three years providing meeting facilities, office space and parking space for the Civil Air Patrol van. They also provide hangar space for the Cessna 182 that is utilized by Squadron 147. The airport hosts the Commemorative Air Force History Tour which is a well-received community wide event giving great insight to the contributions and sacrifices made by our Air Force during World War II. Branson Airport provided Squadron 147 an on-site training facility to be used as a STEM laboratory for Aerospace Education, educational materials and flight simulators. The Branson Airport has partnered with Civil Air Patrol to provide STEM programs to Forsyth and Hollister School Districts. These are just a few of the ways in which Branson Airport gives back to the community and to assists Civil Air Patrol in doing the same.

Congratulations to Major Greg Lewis, Cadet Captain Taran Fletcher and the Branson Regional Airport on receiving these awards.
