90th Livestock And Forage Event In Crane Set For February 6

January 30, 2020
Farmers and ranchers in Southwest Missouri are invited to attend this year’s Stone County Livestock and Forage Conference. “This long-running conference will continue to equip livestock producers to better manage their operations and provide quality beef products for consumers,” according to Tim Schnakenberg, University of Missouri Extension field specialist in agronomy based in Galena.

The program will focus this year on three main topics that should appeal to a wide audience. Dr. Scott Brown, state ag business specialist with MU Extension in Columbia, will provide a beef market outlook for 2020. Eldon Cole, field specialist livestock from Mt. Vernon, will discuss what we have learned from Missouri’s Show-Me-Select Heifer Development program. Tim Schnakenberg will speak on six forage issues that lower profitability in the cattle industry.

This conference will be held on Thursday, February 6, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:45 p.m., at the Crane First Baptist Church, located 2/10 mile south of Crane, on Highway 413 (30 Hallelujah Ave). Doors will open at 5:30 p.m.

This annual extension program has its roots in the county since 1931 and is provided by the Stone County University of Missouri Extension Center. This popular event marks its 90th year in Stone County.

There is no charge this year to attend thanks to generous sponsors, but participants are asked to preregister by February 3 to reserve their meal. A ribeye steak sandwich meal will be provided courtesy of Community National Bank, FCS Financial, Old Missouri Bank, Simmons Bank, Southwest Missouri Cattlemen’s Association, Stone County Farm Bureau, Stone County Soil and Water Conservation District, American Family Insurance and V-Mar Farm Store.

It is important that attendees are preregistered with the Stone County Extension Center by February 3. You may preregister on-line at http://bit.ly/2R53Po7, or call 417-357-6812.
