Cody Dehart, 19, of Lampe, was arrested in the early morning hours of Christmas Day after allegedly engaging in domestic assault a few days before.
According to court documents, including affidavits of probable cause and a felony complaint, on Friday, December 22, the victim got into a verbal argument with Dehart. This argument reportedly soon turned physical.
When the victim knocked on the door of the bathroom Dehart was in, he allegedly opened the door, grabbed her by the arms and pushed her, causing her to fall to the floor. This action, according to the felony complaint filed in Stone County courts on Tuesday, December 26, constituted third degree domestic assault because, “the defendant attempted to cause physical injury” and because the defendant and the victim “were family or household members.”
The victim told Deputy Ledford, with the Stone County Sheriff’s Office, that they waited to file the report because they did not want to get him in trouble and that they were afraid of Dehart.
Cody Dehart was booked into the Stone County Jail at 3:23 a.m. on Monday, December 25, according to the online booking information. He is being held in lieu of $15,000 cash-only bond. If convicted, Dehart faces up to four years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000.
