The Galena Lady Bears participated in the First Annual Lady Pirate Invitational this past week. In the first round Galena played Hollister, who was the number one seed in the tournament. The Lady Bears could not find their groove offensively with the Lady Tigers. The Lady Bears were led in scoring by Hope Deines with 11 points. The Lady Tigers had three players scoring double figures. Harding University commit Kendrick Bailey scored 14 in the victory.
In the second round, the Lady Bears played Pierce City on Friday, December 4. Junior, Hope Deines, scored 38 points against the Eagles, but unfortunately, the Lady Bears were defeated in a grueling overtime battle by a score of 59-68. Pierce City was led in scoring by Leslie Jones with 22 points.
The 7th place game featured the Lady Bears and the  New Covenant Lady Warriors. The Lady Bears struggled coming off their heartbreaking loss in overtime the night before. The Lady Bears didn’t have an answer for Lady Warrior Senior, Isabel Rohlfing, who is a University of  Central Arkansas commit. Rohlfing led all scorers with 30 points. Hope Deines added nine points to lead the Lady Bears.
The Lady Bears will be in action next at Verona High School on December 10. The Lady Bears will look to get their first win of the season against a tough Lady Wildcat team. Come out and support the Lady Bears.
