Lady Bear Softball Preview

March 18, 2021
The Galena Lady Bears might be small in numbers but not in heart. These Ladies work hard every day on and off the field. We have Freshman, Bree Rice at 1st base, Junior, Jordan Boelke at 2nd base, Sophomore Bri Crabb at shortstop, Senior, Destiny Rohlman at 3rd base. Outfield this year is controlled by Senior, Briley Howard in left field, Sophomore, Kalie Burchett in center field, with Freshman, Laci Thompson in right field. The team is led in the circle by Sophomore, Taylor Jones, and behind the plate we have Junior, Savanna Baker as catcher.
This year we have only 9 players, but we have talent across the board. The question is, will they put it into action. The Lady Bears are coming off a long hold because they did not have a season since 2019. The Lady Bears are looking for a few wins this year and maybe to even go all the way. The Lady Bears are coached by Kenna Foster, Loni Eustler, and Rachel Harding. These are some amazing coaches and we believe that they can lead this group of girls to great victories. Head Coach Kenna had to say this about her team. “I’m excited to see the growth that happens throughout the season. We don't have a lot of game experience, but our core group is young and will be led by a great group of upperclassmen. I foresee us making great strides each time we’re able to get on the field.” Assistant Loni said, “This year is going to be a great learning experience for all players and the coaching staff. We are a young group, but that does not keep us from being determined to get better every single day. No matter what the score is at the end of a game, as long as everyone can say they gave it their all and had fun, that is a win.” and Coach Rachel said, “It is exciting to see our players get back on the field after losing our season last year. We have a lot of good pieces and I think we are pretty solid offensively."
The Lady Bears lineup consists of two seniors, Destiny Rohlman and Briley Howard. Left fielder Briley Howard joined in from only playing her freshman year to graduate as a softball player. She has started out good and you can tell she has a calling to play, she has a weakness though about getting in her own head. We are looking forward to seeing Briley out there working her stuff in left field. Our other senior we have with us this year is four year returning Destiny Rohlman at 3rd base. She has found her love for the Galena Softball program and is so excited to play this year. Destiny is actually going to further her softball career as a college player. However, she has her own weakness as well, as she is easily angered and has trouble with getting moving too fast and not making good plays. We are looking forward to seeing what she has in her on 3rd base. The Lady Bears have a very young team, but we know they will do good. The first game for the Lady Bears is March 20 at Verona. They play three games that day, they play the 9 AM game, at noon, and they finish with the 3 PM game.
