A Stone County man was sentenced to a maximum of 24 years after he entered an Alford plea in Barry County courts in September of this year.
Michael Kimbrell, 38, of Blue Eye, was convicted in relation to events that occurred in July 2018. Kimbrell was in the Twin Island area of Blue Eye at 3 a.m. trying to gain entrance into houses in that area by banging on doors and yelling to the occupants. During these encounters it was noted that Kimbrell was in possession of a firearm. Deputies were dispatched to the area and were fired upon by Kimbrell. Subsequently, he broke through a resident’s glass door and held her hostage until a negotiator was able to safely end the situation and take Kimbrell into custody.
Kimbrell was charged with 15 felonies after he led Stone County deputies on an hours long standoff in Blue Eye last year. As part of an apparent plea deal, Kimbrell was convicted of and sentenced for five felonies.
Between the date of his plea and sentencing, online court records indicate a sentencing assessment was ordered and filed.
Kimbrell was sentenced to 15 years each for burglary in the first degree, assault in the first degree on a special victim and kidnapping in the first degree. Kimbrell received a 17 year sentence for assault in the second degree and 24 years incarceration with the Department of Corrections for armed criminal action. All of these sentences are to be served concurrently, according to online court records.
