A solider from Kimberling City was found dead in Texas last week. The cause of death is still under investigation by civilian and military officials. Pfc. Brandon Rosecrans, 27, of Kimberling City, was found deceased on Monday, May 18, in Harker Heights, Texas.

According to a release from Fort Hood, where Rosecrans was stationed, the soldier was found deceased near Fuller Lane in Harker Heights, Texas.

Preliminary investigations suggest Rosecrans died of a gunshot wound. His death is being investigated as a murder.

Officials at Fort Hood say the U.S. Army and police in Harker Heights are conducting the investigation into his death. Police found a 2016 Jeep Renegade on fire the same day his body was found. The vehicle reportedly belonged to Rosecrans.

“Command Sgt. Maj.  Ryan McLane and I would like to express our deepest regrets to the family and loved ones of Pfc. Brandon Rosecrans. The thoughts and prayers of the Soldiers of 215th Brigade Support Battalion and the Greywolf Brigade are with them during this difficult time,” said Colonel Kevin Capra, commander 3rd Armored Brigade Combat Team.

Private first class Rosecrans entered the army in 2018 as a quartermaster and chemical equipment repairer and has been assigned to the 3rd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division since November 2018.

Among his medals and distinctions, an Army press release about his death lists the National Defense Service Medal and the Army Service Ribbon.

Authorities are asking anyone with information to call the Harker Heights Police Criminal Investigation Division at (254) 953-5400 or Crime Stoppers at (254) 526-TIPS.
